Pioneer VSX-1010ah-k to power RTi-A1 and CsiA4??

I just got started building my HT. Im fairly new to this so any help is appreciated. I got the RTi-A1 bookshelf's and the CSi-A4 cc powered with a Pioneer VSX-1019ah-k. I'm running 12 ga speaker wire 9-12 ft/ea. My question is... 1) this amp should def be enough to power these speakers right?
and 2) Is it normal that I have the volume up to about -50 db before it reaches low listening levels, -40 avg levels and -20 somewhat loud.

My concern is that it just seems it takes quite a bit before I reach full sound, I'm not trying to put consistent strain on my av rec.

Any ideas on bi-amping these speakers? Thanks for any input and pardon the newbiness :) Polk rocks.

    Welcome to club Polk.

I had that receiver and it should be fine for those speakers.Have you ran mcacc yet?And as for Bi-amping those speakers, some people will will say its a waste of time and wire, then again if you have both, give it a try.let your ears be the judge.

Thanks. No I haven't run mcacc yet, I'm waiting to get the speakers settled in their final location before that. I will probably give the bi-amp a go, see if I get any different / better results. So you think listening in the -40 - -20db range is cool? Not too much strain on the rec. Just seems like a little much.

Well what kind of source are you listening to?For instance we have satellite.when i flip through channels, some will be lower and some will be higher.

Also, make sure you have checked the speakers are in the proper terminals + and -.Not saying you don't know what your doing, but always double check.

    Keep us posted.

+1, those Rti bookshelves are fairly efficient and the mid-line Pioneer should be able to handle them. The fact that you have to turn up the dial more than what seems normal to you has little to do with the Pioneer's power. Most volume dials, these days are not linear...in other words the volume increases much more quickly as you get to the higher end than it does on the lower end. In the old days....you turned the volume knob and it responded in a manner that was even from high to low. Those days are 'gone'.

You will be fine with that AVR, it doesn't have pre outs for adding an external amp down the road, but it should do a fine job just the same. Welcome to Club Polk.

Thanks for the replies. Anthony - source is antenna w/ optical audio out. I have hooked up the Ipod and do notice an increase in volume given the same decibel range compared to TV. Have double checked the hook up (yes, can never hurt). I think I should be good.
cnh - good point on the linearity, that gives a little more piece of mind.
Jeff - true about the pre outs for future system - that was one (mild) concern.

Any suggestions on a sub? or surrounds - are the Fxi a4's worth it?

For the sub,the PSW505 is the best bang for the buck. Most people on here would recommend that.Newegg has em for $249 free shipping

For the surrounds,I think either the fxi a4's or a6s will be fine.Make sure you check out Polk direct on Ebay for the surrounds and the psw505.

+1 on the 505, for what you can get it for these days, it is hard to beat for an entry level sub. FYI, Newegg is running a special on the 505 that ends today (the 19th) for $20 off the 505, promo code EMCYRZP64. You have to sign up for a Newegg account, but it is free and well worth the couple minutes it will take you to save the extra $20.
