V465, RM75, and 505 Sub

I'm completely confused. There is a single input (LFE) which I thought I would use with a sub cable going into the back of the receiver. This says unfiltered. Then there's a set of RCA's beside it that says filtered. I have a y-splitter going into the back of the sub on the pair of "filtered" rca outs, that goes into a single cable into the receiver. Is this right? This type of hookup uses the sub's internal crossover, right? If so, where should the sub's crossover be set?

I have all of the speakers set to "small" and normal phase on both the sub and receiver.

I have the 505, I use the the receiver's XO... so it is in the LFE input. I set the receiver's XO at 120 I think (I have the T15 bookshelfs and the CS10 center). If you're going to use the subs XO, I would start at 150 and work from there. Does your receiver have an XO setting for the speakers? If so, where is that set? With my old sub, I had the XO on the speakers at 80 and then the sub was at 110-120 ish..... just for a little overlap, I thought the blended well that way.

All in all, it will come down to a lot of tweeking.... turn on some music, make some changes until it sounds good, change the type of music, make some changes, watch some movies, make some changes, etc. At some point you will find the happy medium to where you are happy with it listening to music and movies.... I usually have to turn the volume level down on the sub when I listen to music, and up when I am watching movies... The highest I have it at is about 11:00 (if the dial was a clock).

    Good luck!

The receiver's xo is set at 120. I tried both the LFE input with a single rca and a y splitter (two male) going into the filtered input on the sub and the latter sounds a lot better. I don't understand that. I've always used my receiver's xo to handle everything.
