Dead is the way you most likely end up going anywhere near the Iceland volcanoes.

Of course one of the BIG ones (think super-volcano) is right here under our feet.

And it may be closer to reality than one might think...
Geologists in the United States found evidence suggesting volcanic activity in Yellowstone National Park will eventually lead to a colossal eruption. Half the United States will be covered in ash up to 3 feet (1 meter) deep, according to a study published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

Explosions of this magnitude "happen about every 600,000 years at Yellowstone," says Chuck Wicks of the U.S. Geological Survey, who has studied the possibilities in separate work. "And it's been about 620,000 years since the last super explosive eruption there."

I've seen some Learning Channel shows on this. It is definitely one of those things you don't think about like, 'death'! According to these shows if Yellowstone blows it will be so widespread and cataclysmic it would take out the East Coast with it.:eek::eek:

More like half the planet... Yellowstone would be more than enough to trigger widespread extinctions and ten years of drastically reduced temperatures. Once the eruption cycle came to an end, it would be a century before the North American continent could even begin to recover ecologically.

I saw on the news this morning that the Iceland eruptions have increased in intensity.

Oh...I don't worry about it. It's just cool to know that even though we humans think we are in control of things like "global warming"...nature has a way of taking care of itself.

We "think" we can figure out how to stop that rogue asteroid from striking the planet ("Armageddon"), building earthquake/hurricane proof buildings , protecting against tsunamis, etc, etc, etc. We think we can prevent another Ice Age or alter weather patterns.

    WE CAN'T!

We can however do our best to enjoy life as much as possible for as long as possible...and revel at the natural wonders of this planet (I guess that would include what we consider disasters and all).

The whole post, but especially the bolded portion, very, very well said!

This may have already been stated but I've read where Iceland has the most volcanos on the planet. I wouldn't live there if you gifted me a mansion there.
