I want to get into seperates (e.g. amplifiers). Which is better? Buying used or factory refreshed?

    Ummmmmm........

You need to be more specific.

Factory refeshed would likely include some warranty, but is usually more expensive. It's a trade off.

Definitely you have got to be more specific. I recently did a factory refub on an Harmony remote and the outcome was disappointing. Other refurbs on other stuff have turned out very very well.

    Speak up!

Personally, I prefer factory refurb depending on what you mean specifically by that. If you buy something from store x and find that there is an issue with it right out of box or shortly thereafter and return it...When it goes back to factory it will go through a battery of quality control checks....many more than would happen in an off the line piece.

The same QC checks are not performed on every single piece that comes off of a production line. A person may only check a certain spec every 25 pieces..or more..all determined by capability studies. You might recieve a component that meets spec but falls into upper or lower tolerance limits. At times,...when certain tolerances stack up....you get faulty equipment.

I like factory refurbished myself...I am more certain that the item has been thoroughly tested....imho
