Cutting most of the cord

I decided I had enough of the high cable bill (Verizon FIOS) along with barely using the TV service. Current service is their Triple Play package of TV, Internet (75/75) and home phone.

Called Verizon last night and wound up going with a local HD TV station package only and 100/100 internet. Was only looking for Internet, but it was cheaper to upgrade to 100/100, get a free router upgrade and have the local TV stations. I also use a TIVO with monthly service along with a FIOS cablecard that they charge me for as well. Getting rid of the TIVO service and cablecard since in Maryland, they have to provide a digital TV box to me for free.

I won't miss the TV service since I rarely turn it on anyway. Football season, i'll still be able to watch the Ravens on local TV. Other than that, I really don't care. For me, i'm either streaming Netflix or watching Blu Rays that I get from Netflix.

Total savings...$70 / month. I can afford to pay it, but it pains me greatly to see it wasted.

Now, time to dig into this massive pile of novels i've been meaning to read.
No excuses!
