Help Needed. Lsi fx vs Lsfx

Options
Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. I'm looking at possibly buying for my husband. He has a lot invested in his system consisting of mostly Emotiva and Polk. Right now he has the Lsi25 floor standing front speakers and Lsic center channel and we're using and old pair of Polk floor standing speakers for the rear.

I know that LSI9's would eventually complete the rear properly, but can someone tell me the difference between adding Lsi fx vs Lsfx to his set up? Thanks very much.

The LS/FX if I remember right is the OLDER series BEFORE the LSi series. So for the LSi series you'd want the LSi F/X. I own these speakers and they will NEVER leave my setup.

I tried a set of LSi 7's in the same position and just never liked it as well.

So I'd get the LSi f/X if you can find them. If your looking for in ceiling they also make the 80F/X-LS speaker which would match sound wise with the LSi line.

Lisa's make better surround and surround back speakers IMO. I had both and thought the LSI7's mounted on the wall at 72 inches to the Tweeter was golden. The LSIFX where nice but didn't pin point things as clearly as the 7's did. The Direct firing speakers for surround work much better from Dolby Digital and on.

I would tend to agree with @mantis. If this is for a 5.1 system that will move to 7.1 I would go with 2 sets of LSi 7's which will likely run about the same price used as a SINGLE set of LSi f/x. My setup however cannot for layout reasons move beyond 5.1 for right now. So for my the LSi F/x provide the feeling of additional speakers behind me that I cant get conventionally at this time.

Best of luck, I'm sure your husband will be very happy.

I used lsi15's and 7's for surrounds. Now I use 2 sets of lsi fx with lsim 705 and 706 up front. From my experience with home theater you don't want to pin point where the surround speaker is. The bi-pole di-pole feature allows more flexible placment options. And in my opinion is worth it over the money of a direct radiating speaker. Running 2 sets of lsifx's in my theater, you are envoloped in sound, that if you closed your eyes you would have no idea a speaker is even there (if set up properly and have the room). Im a huge fan of the lsifx. It's the best surround speaker polk has ever made.

So I had experienced many combinations of the LSi Series HT configurations and my conclusion was.

    LSi15's as fronts
    LSiC
    LSi FX as l/r surrounds
    and

    Lsi 7's as rear surrounds.

The dipole/bipole features allow for the most flexablity if you don't have a dedicated/flawed listening are amd can help compensate.

    YMMV
