  I would add that there are many happy Schiit Modi/Modius owners out there. Both come in under $300.

  I've been very happy with my Teac, which, at the time, came in under $300. Not sure about the current offerings... So, iPad? Are you talking about having the iPad connected by USB to the DAC?
