Both can provide stellar sound. However, there's not much available in the way of DVD-A. I consider it to be a dead format.

Both have terrific sound. You can't go wrong with either one. But as Jesse said, you will have a hard time finding dvd-a's.

Very few new DVD-A available these days. They do for the most part offer good sound quality but this format got lost thanks to dual disc and it being hyped as surround sound. I would put my money into SACD.

Thanks guys for the input. I have been looking on amazon and acoustic sounds for sacd and dvd audio. Is there any where else that I need to check out for good deals. Also does anyone have any experience with the Harman Kardon dvd 48. I have read that the audio is amazing, just seeing if anyone has heard it firsthand. Thanks

rdb, both SACD and DVD-Audio are about the same in terms of sound quality.. so since your player can play both formats.. look for the types of music you like on either format.

As mentioned.. DVD-Audio hasn't had many releases lately... SACD I think still does. in all honesty, neither format was really embraced by consumers.. audiophiles are they only ones that were/are interested in multi channel audio.

Hopefully, Blu Ray will change that and consumers will finally see the benefits of multi channel music. :)

There are over 5500 SACD's and less than 1000 DVD-A's.

Both are great formats. DVD-A has the benefit of having at least some material on the screen sometimes even liner notes and lyrics. DVD_A is always multi-channel in my experience but SACDs can be either multi-channel or stereo only. Both formats sound better (higher resolution) than CDs and almost as good as LPs. Music Direct also has a god selection of both SACDs and DVD-As. You can even find some on flea bay such as Clapton's Layla if they are (it is) out of print.
    Good luck and enjoy, Phil

Just make sure you get one in digipak. The ones in a regular jewel case are plain CDs.

I just purchased my first SACD today even though I don't have a player. It was a J-pop SACD I NEED to hear in its complete glory. Regardless it won't be here until after I get back from Idaho in January and I still need to purchase a player.

I plan to buy a variety of classical music too. I own Bjork's post on CD and Vinyl already.. it is one of those things that I'm sure I will be getting on SACD eventually.

Hamasaki Ayumi's My Story. I discovered it about two to three years ago when I was at my old university. I befriended some Japanese exchange students and they started to get me interested in music from Asia. I really cannot speak much Japanese. I've taken one semester of it last year and I plan to continue it next fall.

I enjoy the pop, electronic, rock, and ballad sounds on this album.. Also, it is helping me learn and develop more of a familiarity of the language. I've heard several mainstream Asian artists from Japan but I'd like to find some more obscure music. I'd welcome any recommendations you may have.

I'm looking to invest in an SACD/DVD-A player soon myself. I have a couple friends who have them, and the sound quality is phenomenal. As said already though, there are far more titles available in the SACD format.

A great site to check out is http://www.sa-cd.net/ They have a listing of basically every title that's available on SACD, and also will help you find a place to purchase them. It's a cool site if any of you aren't familiar with it.
