I'm about to start construction of a media room, and it got me to thinking about going to a 7 channel system. What would be the best speakers to use, given my current system?
Samsung 52" Flat Panel LCD
Sunfire TGP-5
Sunfire TGA-7400
Sony S300 Blue-ray
RTi12, CSi5, FXi5
SVS 20-39 CS Plus

Should I use RTi6s for the rears? Another set of FXi5s wouldn't sound right, would it?

Seating arrangement? How big is the room? Unless you have a very large room, a 7.1 surround system would not benefit you any more than a 5.1 system would. IMHO.

    LSi15's front (modded xo's)
    LSic center
    LSiFX's sides
    LSi7's rears
Sunfire Sig. 600 amp for 15's
    Sunfire Sig. Cinema for C,S&R
    Sony ES 3000 pre/pro
SVS 2039 PC Plus sub 12.3 (16hz tune)
    PS3
    Wii
    Signal and Audioquest ic's
    12 awg monster speaker-cable (bi-wired)
    Belkin PF60 power conditioner

The room is 15'x28'. Seating will be home theater style, with 2 rows of 3. The second row will be on a riser.

I dont think the fxi5's would be bad. I think they're made for rear surround duty as well.

of course, RTi6's will be fine too

Given my room size above, I'm worried about the directional sound from the FXi5s. I'm considering selling them and buying 2 sets of RTi6s for side and rear surrounds. Thoughts?

My only thought is that the RTi6's are rather big bookshelves; make sure you have the room to place them without having people hitting them with their head every time they move around the room.

Second (or even third) set of FXi5's. It's best to use the same set of surround speakers sides and rear- mounted at the same height. The only situation I'd use the RTi6's if your rear wall is quite a distance from the seating area.
