Need advice on speakers for HT setup.

I need some advice from the collective wisdom of this great Polk forum:

I'm searching for a pair of speakers to replace the front end of my home theater setup. My AV receiver is a Sony STR-DA5300ES, and my current speakers are a HSU Ventriloquist system (5.1 mini system) with a polk sub. It's a nice little satelite system, but I want a more robust speaker system to go with my new Sony AV receiver. I mostly use the system for movies rather than music.

Price is a major factor, so I am looking for a pair of used RTi10 or RTi12 (or possibly RTi8), with a matching center channel to follow. If a RTi150 pair ever came up for sale, I would consider that, too (I already have a pair of RTi150 in a separate 2-channel system and love them). I have a smallish room, but prefer tower speakers over bookshelf speakers.

(1) Any thoughts on which RTi may be a good choice?

(2) How do the newer RTia speakers compare?

Eventually, I would love to get a separate multichannel amp to help power my speakers, but that may need to wait a while to build my electronics fund.

Thanks!

www.onecall.com had some clearance RTi models for pretty cheap. You might check their website. The RTi series would probably be a good choice with your heavy focus on movies. The monitor series wouldn't be a bad choice either, you'll just need to try to listen to both.

I'm not familiar with KEF, but have heard a lot of good things on here about them. Onecall has the IQ5's on sale for $200 shipped. Might be something to consider.

I love my RTI8's I could not be happier and they sound great just running on onkyo 805. I had the 10's but sold them for the 8's because i have 2 subs. THe onkyo runs the 8's loud with no extra amps. hope this helps
