Shipping an older CD player

I have an older CD player that I will be shipping across the country. It originally had screws to lock down the transport but I do not have them. I purchased this used and it was shipped to me without the screws. It did have a cd in the drawer and I assumed that it was left in by mistake, but now I wonder if it was intentional. Would leaving a disk in the mechanism help prevent damage? Back in the day I seem to remember that my apple floppy drive had fake “disks” that were supposed to be installed during transport. I really want to make sure this arrives in good shape so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

I think the srews are to hold the laser sled in place. Putting a disc in will not do that.

The fake "disc" in the floppy drives was the so the that drive could be put in the closed position for transport with out the heads bumping into anything. Leave a disc in CD player won't do the same thing. Check the manual or call the manufacturer- they can probably tell you the size/ thread count for the screws.
