Corrosion RCA jacks on squeezebox 3?

I recently bought a SB3 at a very good price, but after I got it, I found heavy corrosion on the RCA plugs. Now my router went bad, so I cannot test the SQ of the SB3. I am wondering if this will significantly affect the SQ. I understand the corrosion happens on the ground channel, but I cannot open the SB3 to check if there is any damage on the signal.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Time for new RCA jacks.

I can do some simple soldering, but it is very hard to open SB3.

They are just brass, remove the corrosion with fine steel wool or scotch brite pad and seal with a Caig pro gold type product or mineral oil until you get the chance to replace them. I'd be more worried about the acidic/gaseous environment that caused the corrosion.

I would bet it spent some time in a Meth lab.............

I'd open it up and see what the rest of the insides look like. If the jacks are the only obvious thing wrong , outside of giving them a polishing, I might consider replacing them.

Thank you guys for all the suggestions.

I opened it up and here is a picture. looks like everything is fine inside. You can actually see the clear line separating parts of the RCA jack that are inside the case from those outside the case. I asked the seller what's causing these, he said he kept it in a dry garage and did not understand why. Well, time to fix my router ASAP to test it.

Well it seems there was definately something in the air. This is a good thing (that nothing inside was affected). Clean up those jacks/polish them.

I would consider replacing them though as the center contact is likely to have some corrosion as well and will not be easy to get to. You'll have to find some board mount jacks though.

Oh, and wipe the outer case of that thing down and wash your hands after handling it.

Let us know if you try to tackle replacing the jacks.

Just a thought if you were going to replace the RCA’s, check with Wayne at Bolder mods. Maybe he can set you up with some used parts from his modded SB3's. He replaces the three OEM RCA's with WBT’s on his Statement mod.
