The fan has not been an issue at all, even at low listening levels. It's a classic character function of the amp & keeps that baby cool as a cucumber.
Your right, back then (being 1980) tororids like these were very expensive & not used by a lot of manuf. of the day. The amp sold for $1400 back then, I wonder how that equates in today's dollars? -
