Are there any blu-ray players with 7.1 analog out? I'm looking to buy a player, but want to have this feature to take advantage of TrueHD and DTS-HD if it's possible.

Thanks.

I've been wanting to know the same thing.

Seems it might be cheaper to go this route instead of spending big money on a new pre/pro to do the decoding.

Not only do you need to have a player with analogue outs, you need a player that can decode DTS-HD MA. There aren't too many that meet the bill on both of those, but I think the latest high end Sony, Panasonic, and Denon players will do it... but I think most of those are 5.1 analogue outs.

You'll probably want to wait for the Panasonic BD-55K, the Sony S-550, or the rumored Oppo player. I think the enhanced (vs the current BD-50k) Panasonic and the Sony are supposed to hit the stores Oct/Nov time frame.

Buy a 40gig PS3 and a inexpensive receiver that can do all the decoding. My Onkyo 805 and PS3 work great and I get it all and I bet all for less then a stand alone player with pre-outs. Of course, it's just a temporary fix until these pre/pro manufactures get their crap together and prices drop.

Also, I'd steer clear of Samsung Blu players, I've had nothing but issues with my BD-P1000, I'll never buy another Samsung player again.

Good question. I was assuming mine does, but now that you mention it, I'm probably wrong.

Thanks. I have some Best Buy reward certificates that expire 10/18. Could be perfect timing for me.

I'm in the same boat. I have an amp with 7.1 analog inputs but am not sure i want to go that route.....

The main reasons for my hesitancy are,
    A. will it make things complicated to use? I have a 7yr old that is able to switch things on and play a dvd at present without problem.

    B. Can i set the player to decode the HiDef codecs through the analog outputs and output normal DD/DTS through the coax without having to change settings each time.

It'd be the easy option to just buy a receiver with the latest decoding and a PS3....... Then i guess i'd need a dedicated CD player etc etc etc.
In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?

I also have been paying close attention to this. I thought the panny 50 was the way to go, but now it seems like bass management is a big issue. My denon 3803 can't apply bass management to the analog ins as far as far as I know. AVS forums says the panny can't do bass management for 2 of the new audio formats (I'm not sure what that means, can you defeat those two?, just run them full spectrum). I can't find anything on the Sony 550's bass management capabilities. I'm about to pull the trigger on the ps3 because I'm sick of waiting for a player. All these years of having a receiver with analogs in, and the players are just too expensive and still seem crippled. I hadn't heard about the panny 55 before, I'll have to read up on that one.

Now what I'm debating is am I better off just running "core" soundtracks on my Denon 3803, or would it somehow be worth putting down $350 for a onkyo 606. I'm very skeptical about downgrading my receiver for one that can decode all the latest formats, but likely have a more poorly performing amp section.

I think for now I'm going to go ps3 and denon 3803. Then if they ever get it all together I'll get a standalone player with analog outs to run into my harman avr7300. The 7300 is my big dog that I really want to hold on to and find a way to make it work because the amps in there sounds as good as any of the power amps in the $200 (2ch) to $500 (ch) that I've tried.

Well I've been reading up some more (especially news in last day about bluray price drops at end of Sept/early Oct). Also, turns out the denon avr3803 can do bass management on the ext in analog inputs (from my understanding of the manual).

I was weighing the possibility of 1) selling the denon, getting the onkyo tx-sr606 and the sony bdp-s350 (which would cost less about $300), or just waiting for the sony bdp-s550 and keeping the 3803 (also about $300 with sonystyle credit card deal). I'm going to go with the latter (will also keep tracking panny's future bd55 pricing). I have to believe that the higher end player and higher end receiver will yield more satisfying results, even if I do have to deal with a bunch more cabling.

The other benefit that I hope to get is dual sound output from hdmi and analogs. I hate to always turn receiver on for sound (movies/programs that are not sound critical). I think the s550 will be able to output sound through hdmi (for tv) and the analogs with no menu changes.

Panasonic dmp-bd55k just became available on Amazon for $399. That's $100 less than anyone was predicting in the short term. Finally, a standalone that doesn't cost more than the ps3. As soon as I see if Sony responds with pricing on the bdp-s550, I'm in.

It's not available yet. The listing states "Not in stock; order now and we'll deliver when available".

The other vendors at Amazon are stating 3 to 5 weeks.

I bought the samsung bd-1400 for its 5.1 analog output (and its price) to use with my HK avr8000 that cannot decode the new codec. Because of bass management problem that ruined the lossless audio track, I returned the bd-p1400 and changed it for the 1500. IMO, the audio core with good bass on my receiver is better than lossless track without bass. I don’t want to change my receiver.

I would not buy a PS3 to watch blu-ray because of its fan noise.

you are not getting trueHD or dtsMA this way. at best, you'd be getting ddplus. toslink cannot handle, well, doesn't handle anything better than that. enter hdmi...

I picked up a Panasonic BDP-10 here at CP to take advantage of the new codecs, but I've run into the same problem with my H/K. Still glad I bought the Panny though. I think it's a great player.

I totally agree with the bolded part of your statement...although the lossless is pretty sweet with the AC/DC "No Bull" Blu-ray.

I guess the PS3 fan doesn’t make that much noise. I use to watch dvd on my 360 and the fan was really annoying.
