Okay need to start budgeting for this years Christmas! Yes it is right around the corner and I need some advice. Last year I stood in line on black friday for about 8 hours. I got a great tv Insignia 37 inch. But I had an error somewhere in my budget so it was sadly returned. This year I want to be ready and I want to get a good tv and know that I will be able to keep it. So time to save. I know that no one can predict what is going to be on sale this year for BF. But I was wondering should I get a Insignia 42 inch this year. Or something better the picture quality on the 37 was great when I used it on a hd dvd player. So this is the one I am looking at.

It is a little more expensive but I love panasonic. They make a great product and, if you are looking at plasmas, have great recovery from burn in. Check out Onecall and Crutchfield online. The great thing is they do not charge tax. That can save you about $75 on a purchase this big.
I have a LCD and have campared it to samsung and sharp (non-Aquios) and the panisonic is better. FWIW -
Besides my projector, my favorite television is my DLP set. The Samsung DLP 650 is a great bang for the buck IMO.My Main Gear

I know how good they are I use to sell them along with a lot of other brands and I still think samsung beats all Panasonic is right there with them though.HT setup

I probably won't make any friends with this but I think you should avoid Insignia. I believe they are made by Funai (Magnavox, Sylvania) and are just not a quality set (my opinion). If you're looking at LCD Samsung would be a much better choice but also more expensive. Panasonic would be a great choice for Plasma but quite a bit more expensive. If you are on a tight budget and want something in the Insignia range, Visio would be a much much better choice.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

Viso compared to Insignia I have seen both of them in houses with hd picture and by far insignia has a much better picture. Less ghosting as well. But thank you for your opinion.HT setup

I have had 2 hitachi TV's and while they look nice with HD (as most TV's do) they look REALLY, REALLY GOOD with SD programming. (something that is hard to find in a newer TV) Not sure if this even applies to you or not, but if you watch much SD programming, make sure you test the TV with a SD source not just HD.
We did have a Sony 42" LCD for awhile, and while the HD looked better than the Hitachi's (slightly) - the SD feed was just unwatchable. Just something to keep in mind while shopping.

Get an external scaler... or get an AVR that has a decent one built in, then run your cable box through it before it gets to the TV.
