I found this on ebay and was wondering if somebody has had any experience with it.
And if not do you think it would be a good projector?
I don't know anything about them so the specs are moot to me. I am going to be using a 100' screen in a living room with a few windows. But 95% of the movie watching will take place at night. I don't have a lot of money to spend. I have already found the screen I want so All I need now is a projector. I have a max of $400.00 to spend on a projector. I know this isn't much but its all I have to work with and I would like to get the best bang for buck I can.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Nick

Make sure you read the specs carefully. This unit says it's resolution is 640x480 (less than DVD resolution) and supports the higher resolutions. This is done by scaling the higher resolutions down to the units native resolution (640x480). This is not an HD projector by any means and the image probably looks like crap.
Haven't looked into any current projectors, so hopefully someone here will be able to point out a few.Driver carries only 20 dollars in ammunition

While you're at it, I have a friend who sells speakers out of the back of his van for a great price. I don't know how he can afford to take such a loss by selling $4000 speakers for $200.
All joking aside, I noticed that the auction does not mention a brand name and as tubboat said, the HD claim is misleading. I wouldn't want to buy from someone who is willing to be so deceptive in their ads. Also, that projector looks to have the same cheap finish and construction quality of said white van speakers.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780 -
Looking at the auction furtuer, i noticed that the seller only has a 2 feedback rating is located in China but is selling a bunch of these projectors.
This reminds me of that Pop Station Plus which was a cheap immitation of a Sony PSP handheld game system. basically worthless garbage.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780 -
My guess is that the unit was designed as a low cost conference room projector. It can take all the major resolutions, but only show them at 640x480. Worked with quite a few units like this over the years and they were usually crap.Driver carries only 20 dollars in ammunition

Hehe.
Thats hilarious.
Thanks guys.
I was just browsing at lunch and came across something. I figured it was to good to be true but didn't have anytime to research it futher.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Not even used??
What kind of money would it take to get into something decent?

definately. I got my Infocux X1A on sale at OfficeMax during a Day after Thanksgiving sale a couple years ago for $400 + tax. It has 800x600 resolution and is basically an entry level projector but it's regarded as being very good for its class. To find a legitimate HD projector will cost a bit more (a couple thounsand dollars i'm guessing... i haven't looked to much into them yet).
but I'm very happy with this projector. I've been using it on an 85" pull down screen since i got it and the image is very good. The only issue is pixelation if you get within several feet of the screen but it's not noticeable for regular use. 800x600 resolution is higher resolution than the 480P of most DVDs anyway.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780 -

What's decent? If you want true HD you're going to pay more. You might get lucky in the used department, but it's hard to say. -

I have an Epson Powerlite10+, and although its only 480p it foes a very good job with standard DVD's. The bulbs are only $150, and the unit was only $400(came with bulb) I bought it thinking it would be good enough for the kids, but after having it the PQ is fine for most movie viewing. While not HD it is also only $400.
Here are a few cheapies that would do decent projection.

These are not the best, but for the money it is certainly enjoyable to watch. With you player/receiver sending the signal via component the pic is real nice. Even if I could afford to upgrade I would still hold out for a while tillthe 1080's come down;) My screen is 110". With nearly any projector you will need it to be very dim to enjoy.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

BTW used can suck. Lots of bulbs cost as much as a decent used projector.

I thought he was looking for an HD projector, not a SD.

Not at that price!
He would most likely be better off with good SD than HD for the money he wants to spend.

Well. I was.. But it doesn't look like its going to happen.
I did run across this thoughhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270268142997. While not HD it seems pretty decent for SD. I have been reading a review on it here. http://www.projectorreviews.com/infocus/play-big-in72/performance.php And while its not HD. The picture looks pretty damn good. At least form what you can tell from a Internet picture any way.
It looks like I might have to settle for a good SD projector until the prices come down a little on the HD units. At least I will be able to get my feet wet.
Ben I will check out those links. Thanks

Personally I would buy a new projector with a warranty rather than a used one. I'd hate to buy a used projector which isnt much cheaper than a new one and have the bulb crap out on me right away. This happened to a friend of mine... he spent $400 on a decent used projector but the bult died after a month and the replacment bulb cost.... you guessed it: about $400. He would have been better off spending the $600-700 for a new one.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780

Another thought would be to just save your money and get an HD unit when you can afford it. SD is slowly phasing out and I doubt you'll be able to resell it for much at all when you switch to the HD.

Exactly, just keep saving your coin and snag a 1080p unit. If you go for 720, check out the Epson or Panny models. The Epson 720 has had excellent reviews and is around $1000.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Don't forget Sanyo, I have had a Z3 for quite awhile now and it's a fantastic PJ. But, I need 1080p so the Epson 1080 UB is in range, just need a few more bucks and a better promo to go with it and it's mine.If...

This is a great place to troll for used PJ's. I got my Mitsubishi as a used floor model with about 8 hours on it, for $1,200 less than the going rate at the time. You have to keep your eyes open though.

Here are reviews on both:
http://www.projectorcentral.com/mitsubishi_hc1500.htm
http://www.projectorcentral.com/mitsubishi_hd1000u.htm
Price has dropped pretty good on both. The 1500 was replaced by the 1600 which you can get new here for around $100 more than the 1000 being sold by Maz (which is still a good deal).
