DirecTV HR21 with AM21

Anyone using this combo yet?

I just finally had my DirecTV Tivo upgraded today, and they were supposed to bring me the HR20-100 but of course brought a HR21 instead. In my area DirecTV does not offer the local networks in HD so I have to use an antenna. So rather than send me an HR20 they are sending me the AM21 that is supposed to directly integrate with the HR21 to offer OTA HD stations.

Just curious if anyone here has had any dealings with this setup. If so, what is your opinion of it?

Hopefully there isn't any major drawbacks to this combo.:rolleyes:

    From what I've read, it works just fine. No difference between that combo and the HR20 model. Of course, the Directv design doesn't let you scan for OTA, so you have to rely on the PSIP data Tribune Media provides to Directv in the guide data.

    Does that mean if there is a new local digital station that I won't get it until DTV does an update?

    Directv rules. We get all of our locals in HD. Don't worry they are getting to you.

    Well I got the AM21 installed and it seems to work perfectly. It was very simple to connect and setup was basically automatic. It's nice that they made it daisy chain with the main receiver for a power connection. It truly does seamlessly integrate into the guide. You would never know there were 2 separate units.

    DirecTV did screw up however and send me an HR20-100 too. I've chosen to keep the HR21 and AM21 combo though, so I'll be sending them back the HR20. Of course I guess I could wait to see if they ask for it back. Seeing as I haven't been charged for it.;)

    It's always nice to have a "spare". Then again, you may be charged for it on you first bill IF it is still activated. I discontinued a couple of the old standard boxes a few months ago and they said they "might" send me a return kit but regardless, they would deactivate them. They never sent the return kit but neither box works anymore and I'm no longer charged for them. Works for me.
