Blu-Ray Player Recommendation

Hi everyone,

Say, I'm thinking about adding a Blu-Ray player to the setup. I'd like one that also upconverts regular DVD's. I don't care about CD's or SACD's or any of that - this will be used purely for movies. Looking for something inexpensive as this player will be used to bridge the gap between now and when I plan a major upgrade in about a year. I'm thinking maybe something I can pick up on eBay for a couple hundred bucks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Chris

well you can get a cheap blu ray from panosonic (i cant spell) i think they are round 240ish at bestbuy. but i dont recommend it. i would get a blu ray that matchs your t.v. example Sony if you have a Sony T.v with Bravia i would get a sony blu ray player that has the bravia bluilt into it to match.you'll be able to see the difference. but some brands dont sell blu ray players like JVC i think westing house ect.
    Hope it helps.

It's going to be hard to beat the value of the PS3. The BluRay drive in it is highly rated and I can't find any faults with mine.

If I had to have a dedicated unit, then I'd lean towards the Pannies, too. I've heard horror stories about the Samsungs. Maybe they've fixed all their issues, but it's not a chance that I'd be willing to take.

The LG universal might be a good choice, too. It'll play HDDVDs, too.

I only have experience with a couple bluray players so take this for what it's worth and maybe others can chime in. The stand alone Blu Rays seem to take a very long time to load a disc and start playing the movie. This agrevated me with my HD DVD player and I've seen it in Blu Ray.

The Playstation3 loads a movie almost as fast as a good DVD player starts a DVD playing. There is very little delay. Also, I have never had a playability issue and the picture quality is fantastic. Plus..... You can play Grand Turismo Prologue when you aren't watching movies!!!!!!!!!

But at what price? That's the thing about the PS3. For under $400 you get a damn good BluRay and a top notch gamer.
