BluRay audio...5.1 or 7.1?

I currently have a 5.1 audio setup. If I add a BlueRay player, is it essential that I add back speakers to make it a 7.1 system? Or is it just fine to run BR thru a 5.1 system, or would it be compromising on the sound.

Most are still 5.1, but alot of the newer movies especially those from Newline with a DTS MA have some sick 7.1 tracks, The Orphanage's 7.1 DTS MA track was by far the most realistic and creepy sound tracks I've ever heard, had me rubber neckin to find out if something was behind me the whole movie.
IMO, if you have the room to run a 7.1 setup and some extra speaker laying around I would defiantly hook them up and run a 7.1 setup, BUT there really aren't enough movies out with a 7.1 track to justify spending alot of money on it right now.Casey

I used to run 7.1 and loved it. The two extra speakers added a lot of presence and I liked that there was sound on the sides as well as in back. Can you do 7.1 with your current equipment?
