I was wondering where the best place for these speakers would be. I've got them up on boxes just testing them out. Should they go a little higher?
I dont want to try turning the speakers towards the walls, or laying them on the floor, i want to be able to see the beautiful things lol. Here's a couple of pics, opinions appreciated.

A bit higher for sure, and I would even place them on the back wall to avoid squishing them into the corners.

Actually, you've got the right idea w/ the boxes, wrong idea by asking us :)

Basically, everyone has a different room and different tastes, so what you need to do is find a few movies w/ really good surround content, then move the speakers around till they sound the best to you. You're roughly in the "right" place now, but try out a few different things- depending on the room, a few feet can make a lot of difference.

Yeah those are my surround/rears (RTiA3). I'm only running a 5.1 set up, not really enough room for 7.1.

mount them higher that's for sure... on the rear wall about a foot from the side walls.

they should go a lot higher.. 3 to 4 feet above your head when you are sitting on the couch

I'm not quite sure the rear wall would work. The RTiA3's are pretty deep so they'd probably be sticking out past my head while i'm sitting back in my couch. And my couch unfortunately has to stay where it is, i have no room to move it forward to compensate for the speakers.

I would probably get corner mounts and put them there. You can run the wire along that molding for the right one. Email these guys and they can tell you the best mount to use:

My back speakers & couch are in pretty much the same spot. I have them mounted at 6 feet high & 1foot in from the side wall/window. It sounds just fine.

I agree, that's a good spot. Maybe just a little higher if anything. Keep it simple.

To be honest, I would ditch the 3s and get the FXia4s and then mount them on the back wall. They would look better and perform better for HThttp://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/individual/surround/fxia4/

I was looking at those, well actually the FXiA6's at Tweeter yesterday. I keep reading different things about the bipole/dipole type speakers though. Dont they work best when you have more room behind the couch, or if they are being used as side surrounds in a 7.1 setup. I was under the impression they wouldnt work well with my set up. And music isnt quite as good on them i hear either. But i am new to all this so i personally have no clue. Just trying to learn:o.

    hey metal,
    is that couch gray?
if it is, can you tell me the manufacturer?
you can't imagine how hard it is to find a gray couch.

Believe it or not, I think they could be placed as high up as near the rear corners, one above the door rim on the right side and another above the entrance rim on the left side. They will be placed approximately 4 ft above your ear levels at the sitting positions, which would be perfectly o.k.

Metal, my Fxi3's work just fine & sound great with music or movies. The key is to calibrate all speakers for optimum sound.

I guess the only way to know if i'll like them is to try them out. I just finally decided on returning my A1's for the A3's. But now i guess i might just get some of the Bipole/Dipoles and see how i like them compared to the A3's. I'll just return whichever one i dont want i guess.
