    According to this:

    http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1358

The $100 gift card should work with all the blu-ray players. So if you want to go cheap, they should have a magnavox at $198 if you include the card discount. But $100 off the better quality players will be hard to beat also.

And watch out for the $15 blu-ray movies. All discounts happening June 8th-14th.

Edit: Maybe they're starting discounts early for Father's Day?

PS3 for $399 and you get a $100 gift card seems like the way to go for future BR purchasers. I'm thinking of getting one myself.

So, how do you even go about purchasing? Do I have to do so online, or can I run up to the store and get the same deal?

Be careful here. I think the gift card comes separate from the initial purchase so you will be paying full price for the player and then getting $100 walmart.com gift card. I got a similar deal on a Wii Fit for my wife. She got a $10 gift electronic gift card by e-mail. Would probably be a good deal if there were 5 or 6 BR movies you knew you wanted to buy.

Yes, but it's still effectively a $100 discount as it's not that hard to find 100 bucks of stuff you need but might have bought elsewhere at walmart.

Is BR still offering a 5 free disc rebate, or is that over since they "won."

The ps3 will do it all by internally decoding the formats and sending them out via pcm over hdmi. The article mentions that walmart has added panasonic players. If it's the BD-30, then it will bitstream all the formats to a receiver/pre to decode. You've got nothing to lose by just calling your local walmart and seeing what they have in stock and if they've got the deal going now or you have to wait 'till next week.

thanks I still get confused about all these sound formats I have a Integra 9.8 pre-pro & a Onkyo 805 so I guess it dont matter how the player sends out the sound because both units decode everthing

Also, the magnavox seems to bitstream the formats as well. But it's a funai player, so who knows what the quality of the machine is.

    http://draiken78.wordpress.com/2008/06/01/insignia-ns-brdvd-magnavox-nb500mg9-blu-ray-players-detailed/

The Panny BD-50 mentioned in the above article does everything, but it's a new player with a premium price tag so it's hard to imagine that it's in stock at walmart.

    Edit:

    http://www.my411family.com/electronics/articles/article.php?id=35&name=Magnavox_NB500MG9

Specs are definitely good on a player you can get for under $200. The only things it appears to be missing are no ethernet connectivity (BD-Live, Profile 2.0), no multichannel analog outs, and no internal decoding of TrueHD/DTS-HD MA (although it does have bitstreaming). And it even does 24fps movie cadence. If anyone's brave enough to take the plunge, a review would be very interesting to read.

A few more thoughts over at AVS:
