Hi, I saw a used harman kardon avr 8000 for sale (500$, I'm in Canada). Is it a good price? Would it be a good upgrade from my yamaha htr-5230 to power my Rti10, Fxi3 and Csi3? Are you aware of any issues with this avr8000? Thanks for any advice

My personal preference would be HK over Yamaha any day

The 8000 is great AVR, but its drawbacks are only 5 channels of power amp with 7 channels of digital processing (the surrounds are preout only), and the Dolby pro logic processing is dated too. The HK7200/7300 is more current and has that great HK amp section in all 7 channels and can be found for around the same pricepoint. All of them were $2k receivers when hitting the street in their day.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Yeah, I saw that before. I thought about it as well, but there is a thread on this forum that think that the Denon is better. In the end I passed but it sure is a beast.

Thanks, I think I will jump on it since I have no plan to go 7.1. It should sound better than with the yamaha. I will let you know...

WOOOOW!!!
I just received the avr8000 yesterday and the sound is awesome! It sounds like a perfect match with my RTi10 : lots of mids, nice highs (not harsh) and a crystal clear sound. I’m having good time! It’s a very nice upgrade from my yamaha. This beast is BIG and generates a lot of heat. Now, I have to work on the ventilation of my cabinet… any idea or suggestions?
Thanks, just wanted to share my experience. -
That's a damn fine receiver, good snag

Great price!!
I love mine, I'm sure you will be pleased. Just make sure you have a stand strong enough to support it. And yeah it gets really hot, good ventilation is a must. I have a couple of fans that I direct from behind my rack that attempt to keep it cool

Bass_Pedal,
Have you noticed a humm coming from the center channel? I have this little hum and from what I saw on the Internet, it probably comes from the avr8000. I think I can live with it but if anyone has a cure, please let me know. -
There was much talk about this center channel hum when the 8000 came out. When I purchased mine the former owner told me all about it and challenged me to hear it on his system before I finalized the purchase. From any reasonable listening position there was nothing, however if you stick your ear right up against it and no signal is going to the speaker, sure enough there is a mild hum. Certainly not a deal breaker. He told me that he never noticed it and only discovered it because of what he read on line. I have had no issue with it. And BTW I am one of those guys who sticks his ear up against the center channel to hear isolated lead vocals on SACDs, and I STILL have not had any issues. As for possible fixes? I never read of any.Mains - Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand

Thanks Bass pedal,
You are right, it's certainly not a deal breaker. I really enjoy this unit. With it, my sound quality just reached a new level.
