Could anyone give me an idea how much an AR XB turntable would be worth in good-great condition? I've tried doing some searching but haven't been able to come up with much. Seems the only one on eBay recently is one that's NIB so it's bringing quite a lot.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I've got an XA myself that I got a new belt for but need to work on it's "clunkiness" factor. It's the vinyl veneer version of the XB I believe.

I'm sure there's AR stuff flying under the radar at reasonable prices all the time by way of personal ads and word of mouth. But as far as the major auction site and CL, places like that, expect the price to be through the roof unless the seller hasn't a clue. If it's on the auction site, the bidders will clue them in fairly quickly. AR stuff is great ****.

Post a headshell for either the XA or the XB on the auction site and watch what happens.

Well. Here's why I was asking. Just snagged this last night from a guy for $50. It needs a new belt and cartridge (or maybe just a stylus), but other than that it is pristine. Even the cover is crack free!:D

I've got an XB myself that I put a new belt on but I still don't use it as the mechanism seems "clunky" so it sends quite a bit of noise back into the system. At lower volumes it's not as noticeable but if you are listening at a louder volume and have a quieter passage, it's VERY much there. I wouldn't mind using it more if it wasn't for that just because of the classic look. There are tones of upgrades for the AR turntables but I don't know if there's as many for the XB. This is one of about a dozen (sigh) turntables I have that isn't in use and sitting in a closet. Actually, this one is in my living room atop the IKEA 4X4 Expedit rack for looks.

I've got an XA and the generally run in the $50-$100 range depending on condition. The XB is identical to the XA with the exception of the cueing lever. It is almost impossible to find an XB with a working cueing lever. The AR turntables were some of the first to use a spring suspension system and are still highly regarded. If you can find one, the later model "The AR Turntable" or even later EB-101 are much better turntables that offer much more tonearm adjustability and a cleaner look. They generally sell for $200-$250.

Good for you! A working, good looking XA for $50 is a steal.

cool for you guy... always great to get a good bargain like that.. I have to say though.. it's not the most beautiful TT i've seen.. a bit to simplistic looking for my tastes.. but then again, i've never heard one of them.. and that's where it really counts.. the sound. :)

There is an EC-101 on e-prey now if you want to see what one of those looks like. It will probably go higher than I think it's worth judging from his starting price and BIN asking price, but it does look to be in good shape. Several XA's for less than $50 currently too.

Just enter "ar turntable" in the search box set to all catagories.
