What do you guys think of $548 for a Panamax 5500-EX floor model? Is it safe to purchase floor model power conditioners? I would imagine it wouldn't be that big a deal. I see a lot of these still going for $700 and up new and I know it's regarded as a great product. Is $548 a decent deal or is that too high?

You may find them cheaper on audiogon, but if the prices are similar go for it. Try to deal though.

I see one on Agon that's $550. The (i believe) older version with the analog meters is going for around $400-450 most places I see.

Make sure you get the standard factory warranty, I think it is 3 years.

I agree with Venom, make sure that is still intact, or make them toss in one of those nifty service plans with it. I don't think it is all that much of a risk, I don't think they even plug anything into most of them, they just plug the unit into the wall to make the pretty lights turn on....

My Panamax has been solid so far. That's a good price on a solid state unit.

My Panamax failed and allowed some damage to my AVR which hasn't yet been determined. The customer service is fantastic and they so far seem willing to back up their warranties. I'd call them and speak to the warrantee dept. They are super easy to deal with.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the 5500ex. It looked flawless and they didn't plug anything into it aside from a device to show the noise on the line. Got everything hooked up to it and everything is working. All ten outlets are filled. Had to go to work shortly after, so I haven't really gotten to play with it yet, but it looked nice in its new home!

How many amps are you drawing?
I have yet to exceed 4 amps. I think the highest I've seen it hit was 3.8 or 3.9. That was with 3 Outlaw M200s, Sony STR-DG1000, Sony PS3, Sony 56" RPTV, with 4 RTi10s and a CSi5 going pretty loud during action sequences.

I ordered the Panamax M5400-EX from Crutchfield on Sunday. Got it for $317.50 after blowout price, 10% off coupon and another $20.00 coupon. I have been wanting one for quite some time and with this deal, I couldn't pass it up. Looking forward to hooking her up on Thursday.
