Does anyone have any experience with these new plasma's from this company?I'm looking at a used(5 months) 50 in. and I'm not too familiar with this brand,I watched one in walmart tonight and was impressed by the clarity and warmth, but my big question is dependability in plasma's these days and is this a reputable co. Thanks.

Philips is a good company, but I wouldn't buy one used. It's just too high-ticket of a purchase to chance the history. If you spend a little more and buy one new you get the warranty. One of my friends bought a new plasma a while ago and loves it. Great picture and have new pixel shifting technology to prevent burn-in.

I have a 50" 1080i I bought a couple of yrs ago at Costco. It's been fine so far.

I'd buy one again for the right price.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

You really should buy new. Prices have really come down lately. I just bought one at Costco for the bedroom. Granted it was 36" but it was only $800.

BTW: can you name that movie on the screen?

I was just looking at a 50" Phillips plasma at BJ's for $1500. It is 720P but the picture looked great. I was going to get an SXRD but its size and hot spots are pulling me away.

I would never get a used set with all the problems I have had with the new technologies etc. Get an extended warranty as well.

My brother-in-laws has a Philip plasma (not 1080p). He tried to connect a Sony blu-ray player to the TV's HDMI port, and the screen went blank. It worked with the component input. It seemed to me the HDMI has a problem.. Hopefully, he can find a firmware to fix it.

I know the guy I'm buying this one from,he is a doctor and watches maybe an hour a day, if that, since he's had it.He bought the extended warranty(2 yrs.) and bought it locally at sams.Right now with tax the set runs for just a hair over 1500.00 at wallyworld,he's saving me 500 bucks.I figured if he hadn't had any problems with it in 5 months maybe I would avoid the lemon I could buy right out of the box.Or I was just going to forget his and go for the 61 In. DLP from Sams club for 1900 bucks. What do you guys think?:)

The Phillips is an ok plasma. I wouldnt put it on my short list but they dont suck.

That being said, you can get a Panasonic 50" 720 plasma right now at Circuit City for $1500. Thats just about the best plasma on the market this side of a Pioneer. You might wanna wait and save up some extra scratch and get a brand spankin' new Panny and never look back.

Anything and everything will break down sooner or later,I've been through 6 Xbox 360's already, and I still own one.The good thing about this one is,he bought it from sams club(I am a member) and he bought the 2 year on it,I've brought electronics back to sams 2 years out of the warranty, and they replaced it with something similar.I love sams!

This is my first plasma and I watched quite a few at all the outlets,I never really saw a huge difference between most of the 50 in. plasma's,except for the Vizio, and it was dull.It seemed the panny, the hitachi, and the samsung were very vivid, but with tax I saved close to 600 bucks,we'll see if I get bit for being a penny pincher.:)

I hear ya, but remember that a showroom is probably the WORST place to demo a TV. Big bright lights washing out the picture and the contrast level set so high you could light up Chicago with it. Once you get it home and set up better, thats when the differences come out.

Sounds like a handshake issue with an older TV that may have not have the HDCP stuff ready to go in it. One of the many things I hate about HDMI...yes, I still use it on my HD DVD, BD and HD satellite. Or, maybe HDMI v1.3a versus the TV having something less. Not sure.

Tell me about it,they all looked pretty much the same in the crappy lighting.I read alot of reviews and I do know what your saying, panasonic and pioneer seem to rule the plasma kingdom in all categories, but for the money the phillips has pretty nice reviews also, but is by no means in the class with the top plasma's.I thought it would be a good entry level plasma though, just to get the feet wet before I drop some real dough on the next keeper.:)
