Upgrade concerns...

I'm thinking about upgrading my 32"720p lcd to 40+"1080p.
My concerns are these: what will happen to the picture when the t.v. is the ONLY component upgraded?
I have a Directv basic converter(rca's), standard dvd player, and rcvr. w/ just component out- no hdmi.
Obviously, I won't be fully utilizing the 1080p, but I don't want to upgrade size only at this point(trying to plan for the horizon), and don't plan to upgrade the rest for quite a while.
Just checking if anyone here is/ was in the same boat?
Thanks

Not really worth the upgrade unless youre throwing 1080p sources at ( HD DVD, Blu). You should stay put until youre ready to go larger, 50-60inches then you'll really see difference in PQ. With the upgrade youre thinking of making now, there will be a subtle change in PQ, but not much I think.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I wanted to uprade for size reasons only, right now. And I just wasn't sure what sending 720p signal to 1080p set would do.
I'm also thinking of building an upper end HTPC, possibly w/ an HD tuner card(provided the copyright lawyers don't get 'em pulled clean off the market?)
The dvd player is pretty much music only now, and Directv is giving me a decent signal for what I've got.
