I have a set of rti10s and I need a new receiver to drive them.I have a few I am considering. Onkyo 805 $900.00 , Denon 2808 or 3808 $1000.00 and $1200.00 or possibly a yamaha 3800 $1100.00 or 2700 at $950.00. Does anyone have any experience with any of these or thoughts? I will eventually add an external amp for the rti10s, but I want have the best bang for the buck right now. thanks for any help

I would vote for the Denon's. I think their sound matches up better with the RTi series of speakers.

I'll third that. The other two are alittle bright for the Rti line.

The Onkyo's are by far the easiest to set up and the most user friendly. I just sold mine to a friend and he learned the rope quickly. I also prefer the Onkyo's sound.

Onkyos typically have more bells and whistles at the same price points. YMMV.

23, all of the units that you're considering have well-designed amplifiers which amplify transparently within their power limits without adding any audible sonic coloration. The slight differences between their power ratings amount to no more than about 1 dB of maximum sound level(e.g. 105 dB vs 106 dB)and can be disregarded for all practical purposes. This varies with the average loudness level used by the listener and the dynamic range of the material being played, but in most cases the available maximum power would be more than enough for the RTi10s and no separate amplification would need to be added in the future.

For the best bang for the buck at this time consider the special now available at Shop Onkyo on the factory refurb 805(and some other models). By registering for "Club Onkyo" you're eligible for the Christmas 10% off special plus a $10 credit, which reduces the $699 price to $619, with free shipping. In addition, there's a 5% credit(about $31)given which can be applied to future purchases, including cables or other accessories. Assuming that this credit is used, the net cost would be reduced to about $588.

I vote Onkyo but any of them will function as intended.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I believe ubid.com is also an authorized onkyo dealer. The ocassionally have great deals.

    OK- just looked

Buy it now $219 for the TX-Sr604 or just put in a bid - looks to be no reserve.

I am currently salivating over a 3808ci... and I have an Emotiva DMC-1 for sale in the classifieds, which is a Sunfire TGA IV clone. Sounds fantastic, the Denon just does more of what I am looking for. I would be pairing it with my 7x300 @4ohms Emotiva MPS-1 amp powering my LSis, so I would not be using the amp section.

For those speakers I would go with the Pioneer Elite vsx92txh which is around 1200.00 or so. I think it sounds the best over Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo products.

It also makes a killer preamp. As well as the Elite vsx94txh which is what I'm getting mated with a Rotel RMB1095 and Rb1080.
