DeoxIT to the rescue!

Over the last couple of months I noticed some static at low volume in my 2 ch. setup. It started to get worse so I picked up a bottle of DeoxIT and hit the volume pot on my Pre-Amp. It helped a little, but didn't get rid of the problem.
Since then I've been bracing myself and putting money aside since it appeared I may have to ship the unit to Audioclassics for repair. I wasn't crazy about shipping the unit and I know their labor isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. As per the advice of someone on another forum, I applied DeoxIT to the unit again, also to the tape and tuner selector switches. This time around I used the DeoxIT Fader Lube instead of the original DeoxIT. I hit all the switches, pots, and then applied regular DeoxIT to the inputs and outputs on the back of the unit.
I am as happy as a pig in ****, I can't believe it worked. No more static and everything sounds better overall. I also hit Utopia tonight and picked up $50 worth of vinyl, so I may not go to bed till the sun comes up.

I'm going to apply it to every RCA connection today. Better safe than sorry.

I like the little wipes for connections. The spray is good for the pots, but a lot gets wasted with the "overspray". The little bottles are good also. Caig offers some bundle packages that have a little of everything. I recommend getting one of those.Carl -

Yes sir! Highly recommended and used often.....apparently it`s a must have on your audio toolbox~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Does anybody know of a volume dealer? I'm interested.

Fry's has DeOxit. $14 for the regular and $15 for the Gold. I tried Radio Shack but all I got was a confused look so not all locations carry it.
Initially, I wasn't too happy about $15 for such a small spray can but a little goes a long way. Restored a 1971 Kenwood stereo that I thought for sure was toast. -

Dang Treitz, I know you have a pile of gear, but a gallon? What are Ya gonna do, submurge the whole unit in deoxit?:D -

Hehe, I know where that thought came from. I actually go thru a 2 bottle kit or more [cleaner and preserver] on a monthly basis, not only for audio, but for business equipment as well. Saves me a lot of $$$. This stuff is fantastic for keeping connections clean when the PPM of sheetrock dust, paint and chemical fumes are in high concentrations. Having equipment go down at the work site is much more expensive than I am willing to bear and this stuff has saved the day on many an occasion.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Hey Face,
If your volume control is a slider or rotary pot, the better product is DeoxIT FaderLube (formerly known as CaiLube MCL). You will hear people say that these products (contact enhancers) are a gimmick and don't really do that much. I had a project at work where I was developing a test station to actively compensate pressure transducers for temperature. The transducers come with 4-5 resistors which are a passive temperature compensation and I had to install the 6-pin transducer and up to 5 resistors in a ZIF socket (Zero Insertion Force). I was seeing about a 50% failure rate and started applying Sumiko Tweek to the resistor leads. My failure rate went from 50% to zero%!! Tweek was an industrial contact enhancer bottled for audiophiles (the only reason I had heard of it). I can't remember the original name, but it became unavailable and that's when I found the products from Caig Labs. This stuff is for real. I use it on all stereo connections, as well as all non-soldered connections in my cars and motorcycle.
Makes a great stocking stuffer too!! -

Sorry about that Face; I started to reply cuz I didn't see the reference to CaliLube; then when I looked it up to get the name right, I saw that the name was changed--which you of course already mentioned.

I have the spray cans and as great as this stuff plus the Gold is, with the spray cans it can get messy.

Last time around, I bought the fader lube in the small squirt bottle and deoxit with the brush applicator for that reason."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Yep I wish I would run out so I can buy them in good conscience but this stuff seems to last forever!
