something else.

My son wants a Zune for Xmas but I'm not adverse to buying another name if the quality and features are comparable for a lower price.

What are your recommendations? Sandisk? Samsung? Something else?

IMHO just get an iPod within your price. I've tried the Zune. The interface is clunky and the compatibility sucks.

Ok then, Samsung makes some good ones with cool interface. The scandisk ones are fairly minimalistic but have super long battery life. Samsung and ZUne have similar sound quality. I think the Samsung ones generally handle the most formats.

Anyone know of a decent website that compares the various competitors?

Creative labs more bang for buck. I'm sure everyone will have an opinion - mine - my zen touch 40gb still going strong after 3yrs.

I'll buy creative again if this one ever dies.

Got a sandisk sansa a few months ago. 4gb for 60 bucks. Battery life is phenomenal, interface is easy to use and besides the god-awful headphones they package it sounds pretty good.

They have also had the 4gb on woot recently for 50 bones.

Forgot to mention they're recertified...but who cares. They still come with the factory warranty and the "RECERTIFIED" stamp on the back can be picked off in seconds with the end of a credit card.

Ive got a Creative Labs Zen Vision:M. Its ok. There are things on it that could have bee improved on. That said, its been reasonably reliable. Its a decent alternative to the Zune.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
