A Carver PM 1201 presented itself yesterday. I know that he makes pretty soild products, but I was wondering ya'lls opinion of this amplifier? I couldn't really find any information on it, so any thing would be helpful. Thanks

So this would probably be a no go for the hifi, correct? It's got tons of power, but I have heard that pro amps aren't great for the home.

Mylinda from Classic Carver Repair was talking up the PMs to me last year. In effect, more power, similar design and sound quality, but fans. I think we were discussing the PM1.5, but I would think it would hold with the 1201. Plenty of power anyway.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Don't know, I have never heard that Carver before, and I haven't been impressed by any of the Carvers I have heard.

The fans would really be an issue with me, but I imagine you could replace them with quiet fans quite easily.

Well, I'll give it a try and see how the sound quality is. The 600wpc should be a healthy dose for my SDA 2A...

Well I demoed the amp today and it sounds amazing. It is sweet how a lot of power can really wake-up some speakers. The sound was cranked up and was barely scratching the LED meters.

The only issue is the fans. They are not loud, but just too audible. Does anyone know of a fix? Replace them with quieter units? Is it possible to disconnect them all together?

Did you ever get a solution to the fan issue on your PM1201?

I just bought a PM1201, one fan does not work and the other makes a ton of noise. So the both need to be replaced.

My current solution of turning things up to drown out the sound is not going over well with the wife.
