Hello everyone. What would be a good bid on a new CSI 5 with no serial numbers. Please help as I am looking to buy one soon for my Christmas present from my wife.

HiFi Buys has some for $268 but they are demos.
I think everyone else is around $300.

Amazon has them for $300 with free shipping, and anything under that would be a good deal.

our Local Frys had it on Clearance for $204. Unfortunately the only one hey had left was the floor model and it was beat to S#$% so I had to pass.

I wouldn't buy one with filed off serial numbers...you will have no warranty...and probably no customer service as well. The CSi5 is so large that I would only order it from a place with a solid return policy. I went with crutchfield.

Now if you're interested in saving money, I have both the CSi5 and CSi3. Although many on this forum think differently, I find essentially no difference between the two. And I am no fool - I've run both on powerful outboard amps, run them full range, etc...minimal difference. Certainly NOT worth over $100. Additionally the CSi5's size is so ridiculous that I'd imagine for 90% of people its placement will be suboptimal. I strongly believe that sub-optimal placement of the center will reduce sound quality far more than the tiny bit of bass extension you gain by going with a CSi5. The CSi3 is so compact it offers much better placement options.

Sorry if this seems like a rant but I've seen so many "get the CSi5" threads...and I got a CSi5...and frankly, for my extra $100-150...not impressed. And unlike many of the CSi5 guys, I actually own both centers...so I am in a great situation to compare.

It's sort of funny because I thought the CSi5 kickstand would work on my plasma but I was wrong so now I have it sitting on both of my Polk R300 and my plasma. It's in the optimal position but realy needs a new stand because I wanted the R300 speakers for my other room. Since I paid $30 a piece for the R300 they make a decent $60 center stand for my CSi5 at least.

Now after reading your post I wish I had gotten the CSI3 because I'm having to fabricate to make the CSi5 work when all I would need to do with the CSi3 is put it under the TV where the old CSR was and point it up a litte if their is room.

Thank you! I have ordered the CSi3. Crutchfield has it for $149.99. Again, everyone thanks for all the help! GK

The CSi5 is huge. I had my onld Polk CSR channel under the TV where a reciever could fit but it sounded fine there. When I ordered the CSi5 I thought I was only half an inch too tall but it also ended up being way to wide so I couldn't try to fit the sloped part in and let the rest poke out like I thought I might on the otherhand the CSi5 was so well liked on here I thought I might fab something if that didn't work.

Right now I'm sort of wishing I could try the CSi3 but I'm only listening the CSi5 with R150 front speakers so once I here it with the RTi8 I'll probably get busy fabbing something up.

    Willow,

Part of me wanted to buy the 5. But I just don't have the room. I hope the 3 will sound good with the rti8s I have coming. Does anyone know if I can get anything for the T90e I have or should I start another forum? Thanks again! GK
