What type of loudspeakers do you intend to run with the receiver? If you intend to run 4 ohm speakers, or multiple sets of speakers on your mains, a high current amp might work out better.

Have also considered Denon, HK, Outlaw and Panasonic Elite? If you have then I like Onkyo over Yammi.

I am running Polk LSI C LSI 25 LSI 9. I am not considering anything but Onkyo or Yamaha. It seems that both are close except the Onkyo can get firm updates.

I would select the Onkyo given the choice of those two units.

Can't speak to the 905, but I'm running the Onkyo 705, and it's freakin' phenomenal. Audyssey MultEQ XT has been a godsend, giving me the best sound I have ever heard in my room and letting me take my ART-351 EQ that I was using to flatten subwoofer response out of the signal chain.

I say roll with the Onkyo.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector
Elite Screens Sable 120" CineWhite screen

For those speakers I would not get either. I would go for a NAD T785 which has HDMI switching in 1.3 and sounds fantastic.
You can also check out Rotel rsx1058 which only has 1.1 HDMI switching but sounds fantastic. Your Blue or HD player will have to send the audio over PCM.

    Good luck

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.

Unfortunately, the Yamaha sonically crushes the Rotel, and has a better feature set. I've done it, it wasn't even close. No idea on the NAD, but it's a nice receiver to be sure.

We like the Onk over the Yammi, have never cared for the yammi sound. We've owned an excellent Onk, & we've owned an Integra (which is like Onk Elite), both great pieces.

If you run those off an AVR you'll never get to hear just how good those speakers really are. 5 speakers, all 4ohm. thats a big load for the built in amp. For the that money you could get a Emotiva setup and be safe with better sound.
