What's the difference between the 1B and 1C? My buddy in Baltimore has a pair of 1B's and they look the same.

The production years overlap for 1987 the only year the 1B was produced so I think very little technology difference (if any) between the two. The major difference I see is that the 1C was real wood and $300 more.

I'm pretty sure they are 1C's that usually bring around $400-600,a good 200 wpc common ground amp. would do them right.

    Ben,

I am going to keep an eye on them but I think I will hold out for a pair of SRS 2's or 2.3tl's some where down the road.

I got to get a decent amp for my 2B's and breaking the screen on my custom fit LCD TV into my kitchen cabinets did not help on my quest for a decent amp.

Business is looking good for me so you never know.

    Ben you get them.

I was thinking about bidding, but I'm in a similar boat as you. Speakers are probably the list thing on my upgrade path right now. Plus, if I were gonna grab a pair, I'd probably go for Doro's.

Cabinet upgrade is substantial, small x-over changes and there is a driver change. I don't have my compendium at work, but the drivers are very similar to the SRS drivers of the same year.(which were better)

This results in better bass response, more uniform SDA soundstage with less dependence on sweet spot. And perhaps a little more laid back, although they both use the sl2000 tweeter.

1C's all the way if you have a choice.

P.s. Those appear to be 1C's

Scott, don't be afraid of 1C's they are only a fraction less (soundwise) than the SRS2's or 2.3TL's. Sure those 2 are slightly better in the end but not by a lot and if the price is right 1C's are excellent.

Many pay a premium for SRS 2's or 2.3's because they don't come up FS as often as 1C's and I think many could have spent 20-25% less on a pair of 1C's and gotten 98% of the sound of the other two. Just something to think about.

This is soo true, have had 1C's in the past and other than a little better Bass response the bigger SDA's have nothing over the 1C's

    Wish I had mine back.

They are definitely 1C's. My 1B's explicitly say on the back label that they are 1B's, and the tweeter arrangement concludes that they're not 1A's.

The entertainment center has to go and they need more breathing room if you want them to sound the best. ;)

The entertainment center was my wifes idea. She picked it out. I have already told her that it was resulting in many issues and we should have just mounted the tv to the wall or put it on a stand with all the equipment. It went over better than I thought but that means I got to get rid of the entertainment center. Just a PITA.

Ben I have put the 2B's on the side line for the moment. The modified 2B's have better high end then the stock 1C's by a country mile. The 1C's have better bottom end in stock form than the modified 2B's. I am going to do some comparison listening tomorrow between the two. I may be having speaker sale in the not to distant future.
