So is it only TrueHD that I'm not getting via optical/coax? Am I able to get DD Plus via optical/coax? I swear the HD DVD's sound better than the SD DVD's...same movies, when I've selected DD Plus.

    Yes

..and yes, DD+ is a higher sample rate, it should show as DTS on your reciever, but it is even higher than DTS. Probably the best sound over coax/optical there is today.

Agreed with Jake. DD+ is better than DD/DTS, but TrueHD is supposedly even better.

You should be getting great sound with your current setup, Ethan. No need to spend more money unless you really want to.

A question for the XA1 owners or someone familliar with it. Can any of this be accessed in a menu and adjusted or is this just a graph showing what going on with the audio?

A preamp with DD and DTS that is almost 10 years old that cost $3000 vs. a Denon Receiver with the latest technology but only $250...what do I lose?

EthanCF, I just realized you are my fellow Boise Polker.... so you picked up the XA2 huh? Nice! Where did you buy it from? I finally got RC Willey to consider a price match to BB Magnolia. I didn't actually use it, since I got my XA2 from another source.

Nice player, huh? CRAZY that you have to have an ADDON for your analogue inputs ot work on your Parasound Pre!! NOT COOL AT ALL!

Thats a graph that showed that TrueHD was down converted to 2 channel before Toshiba released the update that made TrueHD available in 5.1.

Yeah, it REALLY sucks...you should see the email battle that I have going on with them and their CEO. I have 5.1 analog jacks on the unit, and the Volume Control 5.1 card that it needs is NO LONGER AVAILABLE as of 4 weeks ago! They claim that the company that built this module for them is no longer in business. So I have the connections, but lack the module to be able to control the volume from the master volume of my 2500. Is that stupid or what?

To all of you AVC-2500u customers that haven't purchased the 5.1 analog volume module and want to utilize analog of these new HD players, let Parasound know how pissed you are! The best you'll get with this player is DD and DTS. Parasound, I hope you read this and get throttled with pissed AVC-2500u owners! It's not like we bought a cheap receiver...and the friggin upgrade for the volume card still shows up on your website as available!!! Perhaps I'll share the email thread I had going with them.

Wow, that is bad. That seriously leaves you high and dry. I see the literature for that model advertised it as being "upgradeable" because of the flux of sound formats. Real flexible.

On another note, if you want a new demo Parasound 7100 surround processor, I know a custom shop in town that has a demo that they are going to sell for a good deal... If you want to stay with Parasound, that is.

If they can't upgrade your processor, they should replace it with the current equivalent!

Yeah man, let me know the specifics...who's the dealer? Parasound even mentioned they might be willing to give me a partial credit back for my player due to this fiasco. I'd take a 7100 if it was done right.

If you can get a partial credit, TAKE IT! The dealer is Sight and Sound by Design, on Eagle, just north of Vicory I believe. Talk to Bill, the owner... I will pm ya my name, and you can tell him I sent you. They are going to be demoing Parasound Halo gear, and they will be unloading the 7100 and a new classic 5125 pretty cheap...

Incidentally, the Onkyo 705 I got is a freakin' steal if you want to grab one to use as a pre-pro. You can usually find them for around $570 on the 'net. Not only does it decode ALL lossless formats over HDMI 1.3a, it has 7.1 analog ins, 7.1 pre-outs, Audyssey MultEQ XT room correction (which I'm loving the hell out of - best sound I've ever had in my room), and can apply 5.1 to 7.1 conversion (via DPL-IIx, DTS-Neo:6, or THX modes) to 5.1 lossless material. Might be worth a look for you, Ethan.
