**Edit**

What is the closest match to the black vinyl laminate used on the R series speakers?

Example: R150

I have found this so far:

"black ash" from Parts Express

Does anybody know of a brick and mortar chain that would carry something like this so I could see it before I buy it?

Original Post:
I recently bought:

Front speakers: R50 cherry finish (all they had)
Center: CSR black
Surrounds: R150 black
Sub: PSW10 black

I would like to refinish the r50s in black to match the rest of the speakers. What would be the closest to the factory black, "grain" and all, of the other speakers?

I looked for black r50s but nobody had them.

My options as I see them so far:
  1. Paint, I would like to avoid it.
  2. Textured vinyl, something like black ash or textured from Parts Express
  3. Black Melamine
  4. Glue on a veneer and stain it.
  5. Sand the "cherry" finish and stain it. I don't have them in my hands yet so I don't know if this is even possible.

Any other options?

You bought these speakers new? If so, why not just spray 'em? Another forum member sprayed his oak veneered speakers with a rattle can, they came out looking fantastic. A lot less work, too. I've not attempted to re-veneer something myself, but I've been reading up on it lately. Looks like a relatively steep learning curve...

I could be totally off here

    - Which is entirely possible, I'm not exactly hip on R series specs! -

But Im almost POSITIVE they use a vinyl finish -- which would SUCK to paint over....

Yeah I guess that is an option that I didn't list and should've expected :)

Yes, they do use a vinyl laminate, which is why I rephrased my question.

Painting would be a last resort. I would get used to the cherry laminate finish before I painted them.
