Hitachi Develops 100GB Blu-ray Disc Compatible With Existing Drives

Hitachi is now working on improving the signal quality of its quad-layer technology so that it will be ready for market. The company also said that it is working on an eight-layer variant of the technology, which would yield a Blu-ray Disc capable of holding 200GB.

Sheesh...

    Finally, something I can back up my digital music collection on and not need a binder to store in.

    3000 FLAC albums take up a lot of space, I gotta tell you.

    100gb with optical media already in 2007....I remember when a 2.1gb hard drive was something to brag about :)

    You'd think it would be cheaper and easier to just buy external hard drives for backup at that point :)

    I would still need 7 of those to back up my digital media :(

    Optical devices have never kept up with my needs for backing up data, I've always had something near 10 times the amount of data that they can store. So I just do it the cheap way, I have many computers in my house and I just buy bigger hard drives and just keep3-4 copies of the data on several different computers. You can get a 750 gig external WD hard drive right now at Best Buy for $200.
