RTi/Monitor Speaker Matching

I had plans on building a Monitor series set.

I have rears (R15) and a sub (PSW12) that are a match to the Polk Monitor series. And I picked up a CS2 center channel. I planned on getting a pair of Monitor 70's for the left and right main. I listed to them and liked them. I also listened to a pair of RTi10's. And while I liked those (and can get them cheaper then the 70's). I am not sure if they will match my setup.

So that's the question: Will RTi10's match a CS2 center channel?

(BTW- I'm not willing to change my center channel speaker- I like it too much).

    Welcome to the club mikey!

The Monitor 70 is the match for the CS2, but if you like the RTi-10 that much more you can try them at home and see if you like how they sound together.

they will work together, but they will not be timbre matched. I've heard both lines, to me the RTi's sound a little fuller, more refined, but not totally off kilter to the monitor line, so I cant imagine them not working together, but you woould have to figure on upgrading hte center to match the towers down the road (the center being far more important than the surrounds. roll with the CSi5, with centers, especially with the big 10's, its go big or go home in my eyes

An important question to consider is what will you be using your system for. More for HT or music? You'll notice in my sig that I have Rti10 mains mixed with the monitor line. My main interest is 2 channel music and I'm less particular about HT. To me, my HT system sounds great. Make no mistake, my future plans are to have the Whole rig matching, but for now I'm focused on getting a better 2 channel rig.

I've also had the Monitor 70's and in my opinion, the Rti10's smoke them in every concievable way. My vote- go with the Rti10's.

The good news is you got hear both of them. Go with your ears, and forget the wallet. The tweeters aren't THAT much different in the two lines.

Welcome to the board, and thanks for choosing Polk Audio!

    Cheers,
    Russ

Thanks for the input :). This has been one of the better forums I've found for HT questions.

The system is probably 60% HT (gaming and movies) and 40% music (2channel). I saw the tweeters were the same size and material in the monitor and RTi line, so I was hoping they were close. Don't get me wrong, I like the Monitor 70's a whole lot too, I just thought the RTi10's offered a fuller sound. Of course, I listened to the CS2 and CSi5 and I liked the CS2 much better... I guess I'm weird.

Thanks for the input... Maybe I'll see if I can have the store hook up a CS2 with their RTi10's.

BTW, I also listened to the RTi8's, and while I liked those too, I liked the M70's and RTi10's much better.
