Greetings all :D
I don't post often,mainly lurk n learn :b But I require some assistance.
I'm in the process of helping my Bro-in-law upgrade his system one step at a time, and I really want to point out to him just how important a role the center chnl really plays in the HT setup.
I'm going to bring his ctr.to my home setup, and alternate (swap)it with my Polk cs400i-so he can hear the differences.
I need some demo material that really works the center mainly, could you be so kind as to list a few,and plz try to point out why you listed it in particular (was it for the dialogue/effects etc.) in other words, what should I be listening for and pointing out (you know what I mean - solid thud of car door in this scene, person breathing in another etc.)all suggestions welcome, good mono tracks as well as 5.1/DTS.thanx for your help.

CHEERS ! jefff

    Jeff,
I believe the new Hard days night dvd by the Beatles
really works the center channel. When there is speaking,
the sound comes out of the center, when they play music,
if fades to the left and right speakers. Also the DTS Lord
of the rings works out the center with lots of dialog.

    Jeff,
I meant to add that the opening scene in Lord of the rings
with the female narrator sounds great on a good center.
I also own the CS400i. Music dvd's show off a center channel
so try playing Hell Freezes over by the Eagles or Two against
    nature by Steely dan.

i think that the center channel takes up more than 70% of the infromation coming from your receiver its real importain to have a good center channel, the cs-400i is a good center speaker.
    . rt-7 mains
    rt-20p surounds
    cs-400i front center
    cs-350 ls rear center
    2 energy take 5, efects
    2- psw-650 , subs
    1- 15" audiosource sub

lets all go to the next ces.

    Hi,

One great DVD off the top of my head is "The Mask Of Zorro". It's generally recognized as one of the top 10 audio demo discs, and with one listen you'll see why. In particular, pay attention to the "zip" of the blade from left to center to right, and back again as Antonio Banderas creates the flaming Zorro "Z". It portrays really fast sound movement between L/C/R, and displays timbre matching. Or mismatching!
