screws in locking banana plugs

Attaching GLS Locking banana plugs to 12 awg wire.

The plugs have 2 little screws on the side

How far should i strip the wire? Should the screws go into bare wire or wire cover??

    BARE WIRE. Strip it so that you have good contact to the screw. Generally I find 3/16" to be long enough but banana plugs are not all created equally.

    I've used GLS banana plugs--strip so screws go into the bare wire....
    Eliab/Dave Abrams calibrated Panny

    Strip the wire bare about 3/16-1/4". The first screw contacts bare metal. The second one should contact the shielding to provide strain relief. They are nice plugs.     ok...here a few pics of the plugs and what i did with them.
    I had them hooked up before bed as Swing described (yes they are the same plugs, except that I took off a full inch (instead of 1/4) of sleeve folded the tip and jammed the **** up in there so tight it had the tip expanding for attempting to connect to the speaker :o

    The first screw near the top is against all wire since the sleeve would not fit up that far...the second is screwed into the sleeve and I noticed i screwed so far that it went through anyway. Cant get any better anchored than that.

    Listened for a few minutes and yes ladies and gentleman, I could here a difference with only one speaker connected with plugs amd the other just wire....very slight none the less.

    Now the fun part...got different answers - 1 says both screws to wire and the other says 1. hmmmmmm

    For starters i am taking it apart and will try setting it up without folding wire at the tip.

    those nanner plugs are to much work. but if you like em.. enjoy. :cool:

    JK, You must have heard me bitching from across the bridge when I first started and realized there were no instructions :eek: Thanks for that link - just what i needed

    Thanks everyone for the info and links. - Now I will take apart once or twice more as i guessed and went with the one screw in sleeve and the other into bare wire.

    I spent about 3 hours on the web looking for instructions, when I should have come here in the first place :o
