Woohoo! I got mentioned in a webzine!!

Apparantly they covered the MECA show a couple weeks ago. I got mentioned and bragged on in the article and even made it into the group picture.

The article and pictures also made it into The 12 Volt News which is an industry newsletter.

You cant tell it but thats a PolkMomo shirt Ive got on. I try to represent the "home team" as much as I can! :D

Yep, wont be long now. Ill be on the cover of Time pretty soon.

"The Amateur division is for first year competitors with very basic systems. Aaron Thomas has become a force to be dealt with in the Southeast region in Amateur SQ. His Dodge Ram series truck scored a 58.0 out of 70 total points to take 1st in the class."

and i have to add this in too...

Yup. My first ever MECA score was a 40. Since then, the only thing Ive added is my Alpine. Its most excellent time alignment feature and the 5 band parametric EQ have helped a ton.

So, does your system actually sound better to you now, or is it just more "points friendly"?

It definitely sounds better overall but it also depends on the type of music.

The MECA SQ disc is very bass heavy with a lot of Jazz, stand up basses and Cellos and the like with Rebecca Pidgeons's Spanish Harlem being the more horrid to tune properly. I listen to heavy metal mostly which is very easy on the bass so with my MECA settings I have virtually no bass for my daily listening.

No biggie tho because all I did tho is turn the sub fader all the way to 0, adjust my sub amp's gain and tune everything for the MECA disc. That way when I stick in Metal Church or Fates Warning, all I have to do is crank the sub fader back up to 12-15 and Im set.

Tuning is a real art and a lot harder than I thought. When I first started competing I thought it was all about staging and imaging. It aint.

Nah, there is a guy in my class that despite having $4000 in gear, he is on a team that has 4 (!) world champions and are tuning his system for him. He knows virtually nothing about car audio but with his Focal K2P speakers, Audioson amps and Alpine 701 processor all being tuned by the 2 top guys in MECA versus me plugging along by myself in the parking lot of my apartments, I have plenty of ego checking going on. So far Ive beat him once and he's got the best of me twice.

Actually, I have yet to run across too many competitors of SPL or SQ that dont do all their own work. If youre serious and enjoy car audio enough to compete then typically youre going to be doing your own installing.

Yes but he's the only one and its also because he was friends with those guys before hand and they just talked him into getting the system and then they installed it for him to compete, so technically Im still right! :D
