Hey guys what do you think of the small maggies. I went to upgrade my speakers and was looking at these. I have a small room so I though these would be perfect for me. Any opinions?

SMG is getting up there in age, but the market prices are generally reasonable.

Had a pair of MMG's for a while, you'll be hard pressed to find a better value in 'hifi' for a new pair of speakers. I had them in a pretty small room, and on some selections the bass was adequate, and others not.

Here is where you (might) have an issue - you're going to have to spend almost as much, if not more on a sub that can actually keep pace with the ribbons and fill out the bottom end.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Just heard a friend's new rig with MMG's and an Onix sealed sub this weekend. For $1000 for the speakers and sub, sounded very, very good in a smallish room. He is driving them with a pair of modded Phase Linear 400's he bought from me a while back.

They were modified by an electronic tech in Ames IA who rebuilt them with upgraded components and made them into mono-blocks. I bought them from the person who had the work done. I'm not sure on all the details of the mods, however they sound really good, run pretty cool, and have been totally reliable for the last 15 years!

cool! It sounds like I found my next pair of speakers. I am going to buy a stereo amplifier first. I was thinking of the Adcom 555II. Is it wise to go for this much power or would I be okay with less. Also any other amps I should consider. I was hoping to stay under $400 and will be using my HK 235 as a pre-amp for now. Thanks
