Is there REALLY a huge difference between the two?

yea. one is interlaced and one is progressive. the interlaced means that there are lines of information going both vertical and horizantal. the progressive means only horizantal (i think).

Not quite. Interlaced means the set displays even horizontal rows at one sweep, and the uneven on the second sweep. every other line of resolution, 60 frames per second. Interlaced.
all lines at the same time, 30 frames per second. Progressive.
Can you see a difference? Yes but it depends on the source, size of tv and distance away from it. There's really no way to truly show them both to compare seeing there are no 1080i sets in any of the new fixed pixel TV's as they're all progressive sets. The old CRT tv's that do show 1080i cannot show 1080p. So even though they're similar in ways, you cannot really compare them.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
