Don't ask me why they decided to find out... but a friend of mine's teenage son (and friend) microwaved a CD.

Created a pretty amazing pattern within the disc. I think they used a labeled disc and the label peeled off in the MW, but the product actually looked like a CD-R. Of course they actually microwaved two, because the dad wanted to see the event firsthand. He said after about 3 seconds there was a "flash" and they ended up with a crazy mosaic of patches and paths from the inner layer. We figured only a matter of time until someone starts creating "art" from them...

Anyway..

I've done that, it only takes 2 seconds or so, and it is rather cool to look at....

Makes a hell of sound during those 2 seconds, like the Delorean hitting 88mph.....
