I currently have a Pioneer DV-45a which has worked out very well. I have upgreded to a dedicated media room and want a DVD player that can meet the challenge.

I love my DV45A for SACD and CD playback. It actually handles redbook CD as well as my Acurus CD11. I have seen better video playback than the Pioneer. I like Denons line of DVD models, the 29xx,39xx,59xx models are great all around players. If you really like your Pioneer, look into the Elite 79.
HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

    2 Channel Thorens TD 318 Grado ZF1, SACD/CD Marantz 8260, Soundstream/Krell DAC1, Audio Mirror PP1, Odyssey Stratos, ADS L-1290, ICs-DIY Twisted , Speaker-Raymond Cable

What type of display are you using (projector, RPTV, Direct View, LCD, etc) what is it's native resolution, and do you have DVI/HDMI inputs? How much do you care about CD/DVDA/SACD playback quality? Are you planning to be an early adopter of HDDVD/BlueRay?

These are all questions that need to be answered before a good recommendation can be made. I too like the Denon players, but their may be less expensive alternatives available depending on your needs/wants.

You could have John Hillig of Musical Concepts modify the unit. I've owned two of his modded units over the years and they are both wonderful! (I sold my first one to my brother to pay for the second.)

Audio playback wise mod's are great, but it won't make the video playback any better, and the 45A has the chroma-bug, poor de-interlacing (compared to todays standards), and lacks scaling (if benefical depending on his display).

    Just my opinion, of course
