Does anyone have any plans on a diy that can match the quality of a pb12/ultra 2? Box design, amp, speakers, etc. I am handy with wood and would like all the sound of the svs without spending $2000

Sure you can beat it. What is your budget, and how big can the sub be?

Hmm, It would easily cost around $1200 but it could be done (About $300-$350 per driver, $300 amp and $200 for wood, finishes, ports, etc..). About $1400 if you want to use the exact same drivers and amp. This would be for a clone BTW....

SVS does make it pretty hard on the DIY crown if you place much value on your time. I mean, it may take you 60 hrs to do and if your time is worth say $10/hour, well you just spent $1800 on a sub you could buy new from someone else for the $2K and have a warrenty.

You could annihilate that $2000 SVS for under $1000 total. Dual 15" ported sub with 1000w PE plate amp, or use a pro amp for less money. Use TC or Ascendant drivers and you're looking at $400ish in drivers, $350-$400 for the plate amp, and maybe $200 to finish it off. This setup would have over 50% more displacement than the SVS, so comparing it as $2000 to $1000 won't work.
