Had the relatives over tonight and received the re-release of TG. Absolutely NO COMPARISON in sound quality to the original release, and in DTS it is especially nice. PQ was good too, but IMO not as noticeable as the audio. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as an upgrade, and if you like it but don't already have it, then that's a definite no-brainer.

Yeah, picked this one up last week. The SQ is a huge upgrade over the original release.

At the beggining when the F-14's start taking off from the Carrier, notice the very nice lowend rumble of the engines.

    HUGE improvement!

watchted Top Gun last night in DTS. It rocks hard!

DTS beats the crap out of the DD track. Man the dynamics, the sound effects, the music. it all comes together perfectly. It's almost like watching it for the first time again. Very impressed with the sound now.

    PQ is improved as well.

check it out in DTS if you haven't already. worth a purchase just for the DTS soundtrack. IMHO.

All movies should have a DTS soundtrack from here on out. This movie will make some people believers in DTS

I wanted to bump this thread to also state that there is NO comparison in the audio in DTS format as compared to the old version of this movie. If you like this movie, it is a must that you purchase the new DTS version.

Definitely a great movie in my collection.

YO, DOC, what up? hey, i just may purchase this movie. question 1. is it anamorphic widescreen or regular widescreen? question 2. does this movie look "darker" than than the original? read a review on amazon where a guy states that it looks very dark and those with crt will not enjoy the picture quality??? just what i read, is all.

'DTS is a pseudoscience. Matt you don't know the history of Digital Theater Systems. I do.'

Tom Cruise is a f--king idiot.

When they filmed Days Of THuNder back in 1989- the farm shots in the movie took place up where I was born in the Wilkes County area- basically the home of Nascar, back in the day when Jr. Johnson and his cohorts would have dirt track races as a cover for their moonshine bootlegging operations. One of my former teachers at Wilkesboro Elementary owned the property and said that Tom Cruise was one of the rudest people she had ever met in her life.

Aaharvel, I take it you do not like Tom Cruise. Just a guess. *smile*

Though not meaning to lecture, I always judge people in person rather than through hearsay. There always seems to be two sides of a story (sometimes three or four sides). I cannot fanthom that someone whose carreer, love life, and money ventures are as successful as Tom Cruise's could be an idiot. If that qualifies you as an idiot, then I must be pond sludge. And here I thought I was doing ok.

    Petrym,

You are probably right about the fighter scenes. However the four retired pilots I play cards with on Wednesday nights never tire of the movie. It may just be that it lets them remember and dream a bit. Now that you mention it, I don't think I ever heard them say "Now that was a great manuever". Although they do like to say "Lets get some beers and watch Top Gun."

it's not based on hearsay when you can see him act like an **** in primetime.

What he did to Brooke Shields (in a public forum nonetheless) not only makes him a f--king idiot, but a self-deluded **** as well. Just my 2cents. =)

Cruise used a public forum (Access Hollywood or something like that)
to absolutely lambast Brooke Shields for her use of Paxil for her post-natal depression she was sufferring following the birth of her daughter. This was during the wake of his finding himself through Scientology. The fact she wasn't abusing any drug, she was taking Paxil PER doctors orders.

He insulted her 'career'- and attributed to her being a drug addict, which of course she wasn't. Then has the audacity to claim that he cares for her as a friend and is worried about her - whatever. Tom Cruise is an ****. During the last 6months the man's had a total mental breakdown. End of story.

Who really cares about Hollywood drama? You'd see the same crap if a camera was stuck in one of our pusses 24/7 and probably worse. Actors dont' deserve special treatment, but get it.

I've done a good job in completely ignoring all the Soap Oprea B.S. that goes on with actors and focus my attention to what goes on with them on the screen...because at the end of the day they're as irrelevent as you and I but get paid a lot for it.

Tom Cruise is a g'damn loon and he's screwed up a lot of good movies, but I could care less about his off screen antics so long as he isn't commiting deplorable crimes. Their opinion means ****, any honorable behavior is just a bonus.

I'll get flamed for this, but...

We watched this movie a few weeks ago, and I actually felt embarassed EMBARASSED! and it was just my wife and me!!!

I know I used to love this movie when I was a kid, but it's tough to sit through this thing now...

There are a lot of movie I still like today because of the emotional value they hold from when I saw them as a kid - maybe movies I wouldn't like if I were seeing them for the first time today - Goonies, Willow, Never Ending Story, Back to the Future, etc. THis movie doesn't really fit in that category though, it's somewhere else. It's a cool movie, just hard for me to watch without blushing...

Iceman: You're everyone's problem. That's because everytime you go up in the air, you're unsafe. I don't like you because you're dangerous.
