I'm looking to pick up an Adcom amp. for a good price.
Looking for a 545II or 555II, or a 5400, or???

If anyone has one they'd like to sell, let me know.

thanks!

Just curious...why the series II amps? I could see the 5400 as it's Mosfet, but the original series Adcom's are a bit better than the series II. Not picking, just wondering what your thoughts are. Maybe you found out something, I didn't know?

i like the 5300, 5400, and 5500's better than the older **** and xxxII series. Musically they perform better, imo. Mosfet design over Bipolar.

I had a 555 mKII which I liked pretty well.
To be honest I've never listened to the older (non II) series.
Just figured "new and improved" would be better.
    But I'm open to suggestion.
I would also like to hear the newer Mosfet designs to compare as well.

    George-

    are yours for sale?

    Luc,

Take a lookie at this thread. We were just messing around with George but there is some good info in it.

Really the series II are only slightly different, the big sound diff is going to be in the Mosfet design starting with the 5xxx series. I prefer the detail of the Bi-polars (5xx, 5xx II). But with some sources and source mat. they may be a bit too detailed sometimes. Even then I still prefer the Bi-polars. To be fair I haven't spent a lot of time with a Mosfet Adcom. :)

    FWIW

I have an original 555 but not the MKII. I thought I had a buyer for it a couple of weeks ago but it seems he needs to pay for something a little more important..divorce!
