Hey guys,

I'll be going to BB and CC this weekend to look for a TV. (funny how those letters are next to each other in the alphabet and contain the same first letter in both words...ironic)

Anyway, I wanted too bring a DVD to help judge the TV's picture quality. I was planning to bring finding nemo. Any other recommendations?

Thanks,

Chris

Great disc to use and scare the crap out of the sales force. Test patterns for brightness, contrast, red push, etc.

I'd suggest looking at CC, but BB doesn't really carry much in ways of high end TV's. There's gotta be a better place around you to support but those corporate assmonkeys.

heh going to buy a 300 dollar or less TV...if you think thats cheap, imagine that it's being split between 2-3 guys. Yes I know but spent so much money on audio, and I'm a bigger fan of audio anyway then picture. Looking into a philips flat screen 27 inch for around 250 i believe, with component inputs and i think some sort of comb filter. So no high end tv's for me. I was looking at a philips HDTV 30 inch widescreen for 350, but friends (roomates)aren't willing to pay that much =(.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Well I haven't seen the 30" Phillips HDTV, but if it's an HDTV for $350, it's pretty much got to suck ****. You're probably better off with the analog tv you're looking at. :)

What happened to the letter 'U'? :)

I would also suggest bringing something like Nemo. Definitely some colors in that movie!

Personally I really like the Toshiba CRT's. You can get a very good 32" for around $300 at Best Buy.

I have the Toshiba 32A43 television. It doesn't have a flat screen or high definition capabilities, but it does have an excellent picture and decent sound(which I had to live with for a couple of months).

I would highly recommend it as a non-HDTV. The 35" version goes on sale at Sears and BB frequently for around $400, which is a steal for the quality you get.

Yeah, with two recommendations for toshiba I'll check it out.

Quick question, if it has component input it doesnt' mean it has progressive scan cababilities/480p right? Looking for good picture is main thing and 480p...

Second thing that is important is flat screen behind the picture quality, thats because in a dorm room people watch TV from everywhere, such as computer or ....

    Thanks,

Most TV's now have component video inputs, which are very good in most situations, but they only accept 480i.
The only TV's that will support 480p are high definition or "enhanced" definition(edtv) televisions. The conventional analog versions are only capable of displaying 480i material. This doesn't mean they have low quality pictures, just they aren't HD quality.

The Toshiba model mentioned has a component video input that displays 480i. It is still a very good picture, but can't compete with my father-in-law's 47" widescreen HDTV.

Hope this helps a little bit.

    Great picture quality

they have a excellent blackcomb filter , so the pic is real clear / sharp..

    thanks,

budget is my main concern so i'll be happy with i than p....hmmmm

so another question, if I hook up a gamecube or whatever and on the back it says it supports 480p, than on my 480i TV it will still look better than a standard tv without anykind of higher scan line tech.?

    Thanks,
