LOL! I guess that proves it!

Actually I believe an actual Western Union money order is good as gold. Although maybe he'd try a bait and switch or something.

In the end, all he'll have to pay is shipping, and maybe some tax charges...and I'd be out of a pair of speakers...

Anytime they want you to end an auction early and mention Western Union, forget about it.

    I agree with Fireshoes..

If Doro hadn`t warned me about it first , I would have lost big money..

Western Union is not paypal.. or anything you trace and can get back..

    Delete...
    don`t give any info

better yet don`t open it...that tells them they hit a good address.

Forward it to ebay`s fraud dept.
    see how fast they run...

It was for the 70's I listed on Craiglist. I deleted the email and marked it as spam. I guess I'll let them know about it.

A friend of mine used Western Union to pay for an auction, and got scammed out of a lot of money. Was told that the only way she could get her money back / traced was to get the FBI involved. Western Union did nothing to help her.

So they're about "as good as gold" as long as you mean "a thousand pound gold chunk falling on your house and killing your family".
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I don't think this is quite the same as the scams listed at Craigslist.
This guy is offering to pay for the item by Bidpay. If you don't ship it until you have the money, there is no risk of scam. That is always the key. Wait until the money is your's, then ship.
If he was trying to get you to ship it before receiving payment, that's a different story.

I'm not messing with it. If it looks suspicious, that's more than enough for me. Besides, I'm holding them for a fellow polkie. I'd MUCH rather deal with the guys on here.

That email is too generic. If I was buying something on Ebay I would never say I'd like to buy your "item", I'd state the specifics.

That's what I was thinking too. I've used BidPay in the past with good success. In fact I am switching to BidPay for all my international sales on Ebay, since PayPal offers absolutely ZERO seller protection to sellers on international sales; all a buyer has to do is claim the merchandise never got there and *boom* -- automatic chargeback. Why? There is no USPS internationally-trackable shipping method, which is a requirement of the Seller Protection Policy.

With BidPay, the buyer pays BidPay via credit card, bank transfer, etc. and then BidPay itself cuts a money order and sends it to the seller, in conjunction with emailing the seller the status and progress of the payment. This has the added benefit of placing all the costs on the part of the buyer; no fees to seller. Any risk as to the payment from the seller being invalid is borne by BidPay.

If you're worried about the seller "forging" a BidPay money order, it will be crystal clear if it is fake -- the transaction will not show up on BidPay, nor will you receive the corresponding notifications from BidPay...
