Polk LSi9 vs Montor 7B Comparison

I've owned lots of Polk speakers over the years from Monitor 4's to LSiM 703's. Was fortunate to pick up two nice sets locally - LSi9's and Monitor 7B's. I'd been listening to the LSi9's for about a month and was happy with them, but I could hear that lower mid bump that muddied the sound a bit. I didn't mind it too much, added some richness (I don't use a sub). That was until I got the 7B's.

I was surprised to hear the 7B's are significantly better than the LSi9's. More detailed and transparent. Better instrument separation in the midrange. Less bass, but more natural sounding. The Peerless tweeter sounds really nice. They just sound like a far more expensive speaker. Just posting this to say don't sleep on the vintage Polk's. But you all probably already knew that :) Happy listening.

No disagreement or argument just simply to say the lsi9 needs a super high current amp to really shine and open up.

Monitor 7 is dramatically easier to drive

    Enjoy! Both are great

Among other things, the 7's need to be higher up.

These are plant stands I had in the closet that I used with Monitor 10's years ago. However, as they sit the tweeters are 4" below my ear. Would I notice much of a difference between tilting these slightly vs 4" taller stands?

You should notice a huge difference raised to ear height, generally 38 to 43 inches from the floor. Do not tilt them, that was a poor attempt by Polk at the WAF.

The 9’s are vintage as well at this point. Not sure what you’re powering these with, but looks like you could use some gear to really hear what you have..

Something like these stands are what the 7's need.
